The surgery practice is an integral part of the cardiology service line, with the goal that the cardiologists and surgeons would work together under the same umbrella, guiding the growth of the program in the region.  A new planned hospital space with attached ambulatory center and medical office building will be a unique opportunity to help develop the cardiology program in conjunction with future collaboration between IU Health and Indiana University School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient histories and physical exams
  • Handles daily patient rounds (including the CVICU), patient education, and discharge summaries
  • Perform invasive procedures such as thoracenteses, chest tube insertions, placement of central venous, dialysis and Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, and intra-aortic balloon pumps
  • Retrieves vascular tissue, including greater and lesser saphenous, veins and/or radial arteries, for use as a bypass conduit
  • Often uses endoscopic retrieval methods and involved in the industrial aspect of EVH
  • Performs first-assist duties on all cardiac cases, thoracic and major/minor vascular cases
  • Has exacting knowledge of each surgeon's idiosyncrasies to expedite the procedure and limit patient morbidity and mortality
  • Uses knowledge of medical model to promote synergistic relationship between physician and PA
  • Has extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/cardiotonic drugs, ventilator management and artificial cardiac devices
  • Performs duties of a primary care PA
  • Manages other diseases entities frequently encountered in the cardiac population, namely hypertension, diabetes, COPD, asthma, hyperthyroidism, etc.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform clinical research procedures that require an NP; including, but not limited to, physical assessments, blood draws, cast removals, biopsy tissue collection, excisional debridement.
  • Recruit and enroll patients in biopsy related studies and other studies as needed.
  • Conduct study visit procedures and biopsy collection for all biopsy related studies.
  • Sample processing after biopsy collection.
  • Schedule and coordinate biopsy related studies.
  • Complete all required clinical research case report forms and documentations required to complete a research study visit.
  • Travel to other wound care centers in Indiana to perform study visits as needed.
  • Assist clinical research team in other clinical research related projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of nursing experience, prior to NP required
  • Wound care experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of wound management preferred
  • Experience and strong interest in clinical research preferred

Location: Indianapolis, IN - Specialty: OB Laborist

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking vibrant and highly motivated team members to join our laborist team in the brand new Riley Maternity and Newborn Unit.

The laborist is a critical part of our patient-centered obstetric care model. The laborist will provide comprehensive care for triage, labor and delivery, antepartum, and postpartum patients, with minimal gynecologic procedures including management of early pregnancy loss and ectopic pregnancies. This role will involve clinical activity, teaching, supervision of medical students and OB/GYN residents, and collaboration with active midwifery practice.

Laborists will work 12 or 24-hour shifts as part of a cohesive team to provide continuous coverage of labor and delivery. Laborists will work with Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians to evaluate and manage antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients, assist with obstetric triage and emergencies on the labor and delivery unit, and implement protocols for optimal patient care and quality.

Position Details:

  • Full-time employed position with flexible schedule options of 12 or 24-hour shifts
  • Deliveries at the Level IV Riley Maternity and Newborn unit with a Level IV NICU
  • Teaching and supervision of OB/GYN residents and medical students
  • Collaboration with Certified Nurse Midwifery practice
  • Participation in quality improvement projects
  • Participation in the care of high-risk obstetrics patients

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for academic appointment with the Indiana University School of Medicine
  • Excellent clinical skills and teaching skills
  • Collaborative team player
  • Strong interest in patient-centered obstetric care and teaching
  • Completion of OB/Gyn residency 
  • Board certified/eligible in OB/Gyn
  • Physician MD/DO licensed in Indiana or eligible
  • Visa sponsorship available; H1B
