IU Health Physicians is seeking a PhD-prepared Neurophysiologist/Clinical Scientist to join the Departments of Neurology and Neurological Surgery in the Division of Functional Neurosurgery and Neuromodulation at IU Health and the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN.

IU has strong established clinical movement disorder and epilepsy programs and is currently growing these services. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is offered for all FDA-approved indications and the epilepsy program provides significant opportunity for collaborative research in electrocorticography, amongst other areas. The Neuroscience Institute, a collaboration between IUH and IUSM has a strategic emphasis on neuromodulation, augmentation, and restoration.

The appointee will work closely with the IU stereotactic and functional neurosurgeons, epileptologists, and movement disorder specialists. Clinical duties include the provision of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IOM) services, with emphasis on microelectrode recording and intraoperative subcortical mapping and interpretation for DBS. Anticipated clinical practice includes 2-3 days per week in the operating room, with no on call responsibilities.

The successful candidate will also perform independent research (laboratory and/or clinical), aid in the development of interdepartmental research programs, and provide teaching of students, residents, and fellows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient histories and physical exams
  • Handle daily patient rounds (including the CVICU), patient education, and discharge summaries
  • Perform invasive procedures such as thoracentesis, chest tube insertions, placement of central venous, dialysis and Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, and intra-aortic balloon pumps
  • Exhibit autonomy in the OR when required
  • Retrieve vascular tissue, including greater and lesser saphenous, veins, and/or radial arteries, for use as a bypass conduit
  • Often use endoscopic retrieval methods and involved in the industrial aspect of EVH
  • Perform first-assist duties on all cardiac and pediatric cases, thoracic, and major/minor vascular cases
  • Meets the specific needs of the attending surgeon, assisting all surgeons in the practice
  • Have knowledge of each surgeons idiosyncrasies to expedite the procedure and limit patient morbidity and mortality
  • Use knowledge of medical model to promote synergistic relationship between physician and APP
  • Have extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/cardiotonic drugs, ventilator management, and artificial cardiac devices
  • Help manage the pre and post-surgical patients under the supervision of the surgeons

Qualifications:

  • NP/PA experience required
  • Must hold either ACNP or PA certifications
  • At least 2 years of CT Surgery experience required
  • Previous experience as a full assist in CT Surgery required

  • Assist the newly formed Adolescent Addiction Access (AAA) program in providing virtual consultation, assessment and treatment to adolescents with opioid use disorder across the state

Qualifications:

  • BE/BC PMHNP, FNP, PA required
  • Previous experience with behavioral health preferred; either in a nursing or provider role
