Indiana University Health Medical Group is hiring an experienced Physician Assistant to join our close-knit and team-oriented Cardiovascular Surgery practice at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette IN.  This new and exciting position will be a mix of time in the Operating Room, time with patients in the hospital and also in the office settings.  

Position Details:

  • Full Time, Day Shift 
    • 6:00am-4:00pm
    • 3-4 individuals will share call as back up to the surgeon (overnight, primarily for OR needs - includes Saturday-Sunday)
    • Call pay after-hours M-F and also on weekend.  Additional pay when called in while on call.  
  • 85% inpatient / 15% outpatient
  • Experience in the OR required
  • Work directly with 2 physicians and 1 advanced practice providers
  • Expected patient volume: approximately 30 per week between hospital and clinic 
  • Additional Training and mentoring with experienced Cardiovascular professionals 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide care to patients that have cardiovascular and thoracic pathology, including cancers, valve disfunctions and other cardiovascular diseases. 
  • Co-managing pre/post surgery care for patients in the hospital
  • Assisting with triage needs for patients who call into the office for needs
  • First-assisting in the OR
  • Endoscopic vein harvesting, must have experience
  • Management of chest tubes and wounds
  • Thoracentesis and arterial lines 
  • Travel may be required during orientation

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required
  • PA Certification

This role is ideal for a psychiatrist who enjoys complex, medically integrated cases, values academic engagement and team-based care, and seeks an intellectually rewarding position with manageable volume and strong institutional support.

Typical patient presentations include:
•    Psychiatric evaluation following suicide attempt or significant self-injury
•    Psychiatric care requiring inpatient medical monitoring (IV meds, G-tubes, wound care)
•    Eating disorders requiring medical stabilization
•    Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FNSD) impacting safe discharge
•    Trauma-related behavioral dysregulation or TBI-associated symptoms
•    Chronic pain syndromes (e.g., CRPS) with functional impairment
•    Medical nonadherence requiring inpatient intervention
•    CNS-involved medical conditions contributing to psychiatric symptoms (e.g., autoimmune encephalitis)

Avg patient volume is approximately 2–4 patients/day

Key Responsibilities
•    Provide C-L psychiatric care to medically hospitalized pediatric patients
•    Collaborate closely with hospitalists, subspecialists, nursing, social work, psychology, and case mgt
•    Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows as part of the IUSoM academic mission

Schedule & Call
