The Advanced Practice Provider in the Neonatal Heart Center Unit provides specialized, family-centered care for neonates and young infants with congenital or acquired cardiac conditions who are preparing for cardiac procedures or recovering from higher-acuity care. The APP focuses on pre-operative readiness, optimization, growth and developmental support, and safe transition to home. This role emphasizes continuity, education, and multidisciplinary coordination within a lower-acuity but medically complex environment. This role also includes a collaborative consultation role with the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) team to support continuity of care and ensure smooth transitions across the care continuum.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments of neonates with cardiac diagnoses, monitoring feeding tolerance, growth, respiratory stability, and hemodynamic trends
- Provide pre-operative management
- Develop and implement care plans for infants recovering from cardiac surgery, catheter-based intervention or medical management
- Manage step-down-level needs such as oxygen weaning, medication titration, feeding progression, wound care, and developmental support
- Interpret diagnostic data including labs, chest radiographs, and echocardiogram summaries to guide ongoing care
- Carry out and document all required newborn screening
- Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., proficient use of positive pressure ventilation, LMA placement, lumbar puncture, umbilical line placement, SVT management)
- Travel and provide safe transport with single ventricle physiology patients to and from radiology
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate closely with cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neonatology, pharmacy, nursing, nutrition, and therapy services
- Provide clear, compassionate communication with families regarding care plans, progress and discharge readiness
Schedule
- Day shift, will include weekends, and holidays based on program needs

- The following are your minimum weekend hour requirements that you must sign up for each schedule dependent on the length of the schedule
