The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health Physicians seeks a highly motivated pathologist/clinical microbiologist to oversee testing within the Division of Clinical Microbiology at the Indiana University Health Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL). The IU Health Pathology Lab, which is located in downtown Indianapolis, serves as a centralized anatomic and clinical pathology testing facility for numerous IU Health hospitals, including five Indianapolis metropolitan hospitals and clinics throughout the state of Indiana. Overall, the IUHPL performs roughly 15 million diagnostic tests annually, and it is staffed by approximately 60 full-time pathologists and clinical scientists. Laboratory leadership are world-renowned experts in their respective disciplines who also serve as IU School of Medicine faculty.

The Division of Clinical Microbiology utilizes the latest in infectious disease diagnostics, including laboratory automation, and evaluates emerging technologies in order to best serve our continually expanding patient base. The high specimen volume and broad diversity of infectious diseases diagnosed by our laboratory lends to numerous educational opportunities. As such, the Division offers both an ACGME-accredited fellowship in medical microbiology and a CPEP-accredited post-doctoral fellowship in medical and public health laboratory microbiology. Additionally, there are educational opportunities offered by our pathology residency, clinical laboratory science, infectious disease pharmacy, and adult and pediatric infectious disease training programs. The Division also actively participates in industry-sponsored research and development, including FDA clinical trials for new laboratory instrumentation and diagnostic tests.

The position is open to pathologists with or without an interest in pursuing an academic career in pathology. The position is on the clinical track; academic rank is determined by qualifications and level of experience.

Job Summary:

The Divisions are responsible for transfusion services, apheresis as well as cellular therapy processing and adult collection facilities. The Pathology group serves ten hospitals, including IU Health Methodist Hospital, IU Health University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, IU Health West Medical Center, IU Health North Medical Center, IU Health Saxony, IU Health Arnett Hospital, IU Health White County, the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, and Eskenazi Health. Basic Qualifications:

Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is seeking a patient-focused Pediatric Hepatologist to join our thriving clinical practice and collaborate with our highly skilled, supportive teams at the nationally ranked Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The board certified pediatric gastroenterologists and skilled team members at Riley provide expert, personalized care to children with conditions of the digestive tract, liver and pancreas, as well as nutritional issues.  Through comprehensive evaluation, individualized treatment and extensive education, we work with each child to improve health and ensure quality of life.  Our team of 17 specialists leads nationally in research and clinical care, performing more than 2,700 endoscopies and managing over 16,000 outpatient visits each year.

Position Details:

  • Full-time position with strong work/life balance supported by standard schedule primarily focused in outpatient care
  • Care for patients at Riley Hospital for Children in downtown Indianapolis and IU Health North Hospital in Carmel
  • Faculty appointment with the Indiana University School of Medicine providing opportunities to lead as a clinician educator and improve care through research (part of NASH CRN, CHILDREN, CFLD, SPLIT, PALF research networks)
  • Patient care includes but not limited to:
    • Liver clinics (metabolic liver disease, biliary atresia, viral hepatitis, liver failure, NAFLD, etc.)
    • Liver transplant (10-12 transplants per year with active participation in post-transplant care, leadership opportunities)
    • Opportunity to continue pediatric GI clinical activities/call coverage
    • Endoscopy, colonoscopy

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is expanding to add a general pediatrician to the Weight Management Program.  We are seeking a board certified pediatrician for a clinical track position.  The division has 16 gastroenterologists, 1 nurse practitioner, 3 pediatric psychologists, and many supportive GI dieticians and nurses.  The gastroenterologists see patients at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, IU North Hospital, and satellite locations around the state.  The weight management program is located at the downtown Indianapolis hospital.  The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Gastroenterology support a mission of excellent patient care, education and research.  

Key Responsibilities and Program Details:

  • We are the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary weight management program in Indiana.  We serve a diverse patient population across the state. 
  • The program consists of a pediatric gastroenterologist, general pediatrician, two pediatric psychologists, and two registered dietitians.  We are adding additional team members, including social work and care coordination in the next few weeks to provide more inclusive care for patients.
  • We educate pediatric residents on how to educate and treat children with obesity to lead healthy lifestyles.
  • We participate in the national Pediatric Obesity Weight Evaluation Registry (POWER).  There will be dedicated time for education and scholarly work.
  • The weight management team is collegial, supportive, and passionate about their patients and careers.
