Indiana University School of Medicine is announcing the search for a Vice Chair for Pediatric Education within the Department of Pediatrics.  The Vice Chair for Pediatric Education position is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader who will lead our efforts to promote excellence in teaching and educational scholarship within the Department of Pediatrics.  This position centers on the academic mission of education/teaching, including leadership and guidance in supporting and directing educational programs and promoting and mentoring faculty whose focus is education.

IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country, with more than 20,000 living alums and over 3,000 learners.  Its diverse faculty comprises 3,275 full-time members and 3,579 volunteer faculty responsible for training medical, graduate, and postgraduate students.  IU School of Medicine (IUSM) is Indiana's only allopathic medical school.

The Department of Pediatrics at IUSM/Riley Hospital for Children is a 400+-member faculty that consistently ranks within the top 10 pediatric departments in NIH-funded research in the United States (ranked ninth nationally for 2023 among all medical schools).  The campus includes state-of-the-art laboratories in a dedicated pediatric research building, a comprehensive clinical research center, and a well-functioning biobank that all support research in the Department.  Our nationally recognized Division of Children's Health Services Research and the Indiana Clinical Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) are available for collaboration and as a resource.  The Department also has robust research relationships with the Regenstrief Institute in Health Informatics, Purdue Biomedical Engineering and Cook Biomedical in pediatric biodevices, and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute in developing and testing orphan drug therapeutics.  Riley Hospital is Indiana's only comprehensive children's hospital, with over 450 beds and 360,000 inpatient and outpatient visits in Indianapolis and 19 regional sites across the entire State.  We have consistently ranked in 10/10 programs in US News and World Report and, most recently, eight programs in the top 25 and 2 in the top 10.  Nearly 90 percent of all Indiana children diagnosed with cancer are treated at Riley Hospital for Children, which is also home to a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Pediatric Burn Unit, Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation Program, and Pediatric Dialysis Program.   A recently completed Maternity Tower within Riley Hospital allows both a unique opportunity for integrated care of mothers and babies in a common setting and also has provided opportunities for co-development of educational opportunities between maternal fetal medicine and pediatric subspecialists.
