Location: Bloomington, IN - Specialty: Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care

Join our team at Bloomington Hospital in the collegiate town of Bloomington, IN! We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to collaborate with our highly skilled CT Surgery team.

The surgery practice is an integral part of the cardiology service line, with the goal that the cardiologists and surgeons would work together under the same umbrella, guiding the growth of the program in the region.  A new planned hospital space with attached ambulatory center and medical office building will be a unique opportunity to help develop the cardiology program in conjunction with future collaboration between IU Health and Indiana University School of Medicine.

  • 90% Outpatient / 10% Inpatient
  • Experienced providers only
    • Previous surgical experience preferred. Experience in cardiology and CT surgery/assistance required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient histories and physical exams
  • Handles daily patient rounds (including the CVICU), patient education, and discharge summaries
  • Perform invasive procedures such as thoracenteses, chest tube insertions, placement of central venous, dialysis and Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, and intra-aortic balloon pumps
  • Exhibits autonomy in the operating room when required
  • Retrieves vascular tissue, including greater and lesser saphenous, veins and/or radial arteries, for use as a bypass conduit
  • Often uses endoscopic retrieval methods and involved in the industrial aspect of EVH
  • Performs first-assist duties on all cardiac and pediatric cases, thoracic and major/minor vascular cases
  • Meets the specific needs of the attending surgeon, assisting all surgeons in the practice
  • Has exacting knowledge of each surgeon's idiosyncrasies to expedite the procedure and limit patient morbidity and mortality
  • Uses knowledge of medical model to promote synergistic relationship between physician and PA
  • Has extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/ cardiotonic drugs, ventilator management and artificial cardiac devices
  • Performs duties of a primary care PA
  • Manages other diseases entities frequently encountered in the cardiac population, namely hypertension, diabetes, COPD, asthma, hyperthyroidism, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the surgeons in the OR with a wide range of brain and spine surgeries.
  • Assist treating neurological disorders in clinic including neck and back pain, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, and peripheral nerve diseases.
  • Assist with new consults in the hospital from the ER and on the floors.
  • Typical day would include 1-3 surgeries per day alongside our neurosurgeons. Will help round on post op patients and see new consults in the hospital as well.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree required.
  • If no experience, clinical rotations with a strong desire for surgery preferred.
  • Must be a team player and have good patient provider skills.

  • Social work centered practice

Key Responsibilities:

  • General primary care for patients, including histories and physical exams.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree required.
  • Previous experience with Primary Care of HIV preferred.
  • Provider must be committed to working with at-risk populations.
  • Willingness to work in a team setting focused on increasing health status of people living with HIV and reducing transmission risk.
