IU Health Bloomington Hospital's Cardiac Surgery is designated as a 3-star program for coronary artery bypass surgery by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)! The STS has the most robust and respected database for cardiac surgery in the nation. They confer the 3 star designation only upon the top 6-10% of all programs nationally after a risk adjusted analysis of morbidity and mortality data. 

Position Details:

  • Full-time
  • Days, Monday-Friday
  • Call shared equally between the 2 APPs
  • A team with comprehensive clinical experience supports the CT Surgery team
  • 90% inpatient / 10% outpatient
  • Team includes 2 surgeons and 1 PA
  • Patient volume: 20/week in hospital and clinic

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient histories and physical exams
  • Handle daily patient rounds (including the CVICU), patient education, and discharge summaries
  • Retrieve vascular tissue, including greater and lesser saphenous, veins, and/or radial arteries, for use as a bypass conduit
  • Often use endoscopic retrieval methods and involved in the industrial aspect of EVH
  • Perform first-assist duties on all cardiac and thoracic cases
  • Have extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/cardiotonic drugs, ventilator care, and artificial cardiac devices
  • Help manage the pre and post-surgical patients under the supervision of the surgeons

Qualifications:

  • NP/PA experience required
