The candidate could be primarily interested in diagnostic dermatopathology, research, or teaching.  Interest in advancing the molecular diagnostic capabilities of the division are also encouraged to apply.

The Department of Pathology of Indiana University Health Physicians and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Indiana University School of Medicine are jointly recruiting an experienced surgical pathologist with subspecialist expertise in genitourinary pathology for the position of Director of the Genitourinary Pathology Service.
The Service examines and reports a large volume of adult and pediatric specimens from the urinary tract, male genital organs, and adrenal glands. The pathologist will be based at the Central Pathology Laboratory in downtown Indianapolis and will join Drs. Katrina Collins, Muhammad Idrees, Michael Hwang, John Eble, and Tom Ulbright on the GU service. The fellowship program in GU pathology currently has three fellows so excellent opportunities to teach fellows, residents, medical students, visiting pathologists and observers are present.


IUHPL and Department Highlights:

The individual selected will be part of the Division of Hematopathology that provides expert diagnostic and consultative services to Indiana University Health (IU Health) which includes Methodist Hospital, Indiana University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children, IU Health West, IU Health North, IU Health Arnett and a number of smaller hospitals. The division also serves Eskenazi Health and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. Once assumed, the incumbent will join a full-time staff of six hematopathologists with sign-out activities based at the IU Health Central Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL). The position is available on either a clinical or tenure track, academic rank determined by qualifications and level of experience.

Position Details:

  • Provide diagnostic services including sign-out of tissue hematopathology, flow cytometry, peripheral blood and fluids, molecular hematopathology and/or coagulation
  • Pursue clinical and translational research
  • Actively participate in educational activities including training of ACGME-accredited and non-accredited fellows

The individual selected will join a team based at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis.  The IU Health Central Pathology Laboratory (IUHPL) is located less than a mile from Riley Hospital for Children and is home to a large faculty of subspecialized academic pathologists, affording easy access to collaboration.  This opportunity provides the unique flexibility to sign-out on the adult service for those who wish to practice pediatric pathology at a dedicated children’s hospital while maintaining other subspecialty expertise.  Additionally, with the new onsite Maternity Tower at Riley, there are opportunities for growth in perinatal/placental evaluations.

Position Details:

  • Deliver professional diagnostic service comprising of anatomic pathology 
  • Provide pediatric necropsy service
  • Provide on-call  coverage, and conference support with department faculty members
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical care team
