IU Health Physicians is looking for a Pediatric Hematologist with a special focus on benign hematology, bleeding and clotting disorders, hemophilia to join the highly-skilled, dynamic team at the nationally-ranked Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Riley Hospital for Children is the only nationally ranked pediatric hematology/oncology program in the state of Indiana with the only pediatric stem cell transplant program and the only site offering pediatric CAR T-Cell therapy. The CCBD is affiliated with the IU Health Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, the state's only NCI designated cancer center for clinical care.  Riley at IU Health is a Children's Oncology Group Phase I Consortium member.  Our patients are able to access the latest clinical trials and cutting edge medications all while under the care of highly skilled physicians and staff.  We service the entire state of Indiana as well as bordering regions of Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky.  With comprehensive interdisciplinary disease-focused teams, doctors and staff treat more than 80% of children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer in Indiana, with a high volume of outpatient visits focusing on leukemias, solid tumors, brain tumors, hematopoietic/stem cell transplant, general hematology, hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease and thalassemias, bone marrow failure syndromes, hemophilia and other coagulation disorders.  

Position Details:

  • Clinical duties will include time on a dedicated non-malignant hematology service for inpatient care/consultation as well as outpatient hematology clinic for follow-up care and consultation, including multidisciplinary comprehensive bleeding and thrombosis clinics

The nationally ranked Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is seeking a Pediatric Hematologist to focus on Sickle Cell Disease. Our Comprehensive Pediatric Sickle Cell Program serves approximately 300 patients from all parts of Indiana. Our multidisciplinary team focuses on delivering high-quality, subspecialized care for this unique population, providing wrap-around services for patients and families. We provide co-located care in our comprehensive clinic with Pulmonology, Neurology, and Nephrology, as well as have all subspecialties available to families within our hospital system. We are also the only transplant center in the state for children with sickle cell disease.

We have several active research studies and clinical trials for our patients, as well, and we are a member of the National Alliance for Sickle Cell Centers (NASCC).

We work closely with our community based organizations, as well as other advocacy groups to promote awareness of sickle cell disease and trait, as well as to improve care delivery for patients with sickle cell disease.

This position would not only include clinical time, but also participation in advocacy efforts and community engagement, as well as collaboration with our adult sickle cell team and research efforts.

Riley Hospital for Children is seeking to add a Pediatric Hospitalist to join our division committed to pursuing the highest standard of care possible for hospitalized children in the state of Indiana. We care for a highly diverse patient population and are strong advocates for equality in healthcare. 

Riley Hospital for Children is a quaternary care children’s hospital located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. It is the cornerstone of pediatric care in the state. The patients we care for in this hospital are numerous and diverse in both types of disease processes seen as well as in their races, ethnicities, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. As the primary admitting service for general pediatrics at Riley Hospital, we care for all general pediatric inpatient conditions including but not limited to febrile infants, common respiratory illnesses, routine childhood infections and illnesses, febrile seizures, BRUE, and more. In addition we are the primary admitting service for many other smaller subspecialties including Neurology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Genetics, Adolescent Medicine, toxicology, and more. As a teaching hospital, we have a vast array of learners as well including medical students and residents from a variety of programs including categorical pediatrics, med/peds, EM/Peds, Child Neuro, Neurodevelopmental disorders, Pediatrics/genetics, Family Practice, Transitional interns, and more.

IU North hospital is a community-based partner that houses an 11 bed Pediatric/PICU unit, in addition to its very busy newborn nursery and NICU. Providers in our group care for many of the same types of patients that are seen at Riley, as we have many sub-specialists who are able to come and consult from their nearby clinics, or via telemedicine. The unit is staffed by a Hospitalist and a PICU doctor during the day shift, and is covered by our hospitalist team at night, with PICU backup available at all times. We have EM/Peds providers in the ER here as well for several hours of the day.

IU West Hospital is a suburban community hospital that draws from a variety of areas including urban, suburban and rural communities. We have a busy newborn nursery with a level II special care nursery that is staffed by our hospital medicine physicians. They are NRP trained and attend high risk deliveries, care for common late preterm conditions and other lower acuity neonatal conditions in the special care nursery.

Riley and IU North Newborn units are part of our mother/baby care teams, including the brand-new maternity tower within Riley Hospital for Children.  They are supported by level III NICU providers/units in both locations. 

Qualifications: 

  • NRP certification

  • Provide spine care for Muncie and surrounding rural areas
  • Expected patient volume in office: average 60-75 patients/week

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be Board Eligible or Board Certified PM&R
  • Fellowship trained in Interventional Pain Management a plus
  • Practicing physicians and residents are invited to apply

This is a full-time position and will cover clinics in Indianapolis and surrounding communities. IU's Radiation Oncology faculty includes 13 clinical physicists, 14 radiation oncologists and 3 full-time researchers.
