IU Health Physicians - Medical Director, Emergency Medicine (IU North Hospital)

Position Responsibilities
•Develop a successful working relationship with nursing and hospital leadership as well as other physicians and leaders throughout the hospital

•Collaborate with Pediatric Emergency Medicine leadership at Riley North ED to ensure mutual success

•Measure and evaluate current practices and performance. Design, implement, measure, and analyze practice improvement efforts

•Reduce variation from best practices. Enhance services, patient experience, efficiency of care and efficiency of resource consumption

•Lead efforts to achieve a no harm patient safety environment

•Improve service outcomes, including but not limited to patient experience, physician wellness, patient access and reduced delay and waiting time, and other key ED metrics. Examples include: mortality, readmission’s, complication rate, adherence to best practice, variation in practice and quality of life

•Identify appropriate annual goals for both the department as a whole and for individual physicians. Design and implement methods and practices to achieve those goals

•Encourage and demonstrate participation in hospital committees and services, including performance improvement events.

•Assist in developing and providing continuing professional education programs for the medical staff and support staff; promote and integrate education and research

•Assist Emergency Medicine Service Line, IU Health and IUHP leadership in preparation of the annual operating budget

•Maintains knowledge of relevant Joint Commission standards and guidelines as well as clinical standards for federal programs and state licensure agreements

•Provide medical direction and oversight to site APP

•Lead or Participate as the site leader in DEM strategic initiatives

•Work with hospital and DEM administrative staff and leaders for all financial and clinical operational tasks and projects to ensure a well-functioning, fiscally sound, ED
